In 25 years of working with CEOs and leadership teams, I see the same three problems in almost every organisation.
80% of leaders, at all levels, are operating below their pay grade. On average, managers spend 30% of their time solving problems, many of which belong to the people who report to them.
The leadership team isn't a team. Functional heads spend 95% of their time leading their function and 5% reporting up, so anything that crosses functions lands on the CEO's desk.
Nobody is being strategic, at any level. Every CEO I work with asks for it. The capability is there; the time isn't.
The cause is the same for all three: we promote people for their ability at the job they're leaving, and they keep doing it.

About Tony Latimer
Before coaching, I was a techie: operations, programming, systems and business analysis, then business development for ERP systems in the 1990s. For the last 25 years I've run my own practice, working with CEOs and the leadership teams of multinationals across Asia and Europe, with a particular focus on new CEOs and the leadership teams they inherit.
